It's Potty Time

We are very pleased and excited to announce that Ms. Lauren is wrapping up Week 3 of wearing Big Girl Panties all the time to school, and during the day when she's at home!!!!!!!!! She hasn't had to change her clothes at school, and has only had a handful of accidents with us on the weekends. We had a few slips up trying to work out how pooping works, but she seems to have mastered that this week. In fact, we had a Poopy Party to celebrate! Lauren used her special Red Plate (see above), Mimi came over, ice cream was served, and she received her much-desired Pink Big Girl Blanket ("like Daddy's", as she reminds us). We are so PROUD of her, and best of all, it was all her idea, so it's been minimal effort on our part, save the occasional reminder or prodding that it might be time to take a potty break. We aren't quite ready to take the leap to overnight attempts yet, but we are well on our way....Yahooooooooooooooo!!!

Kissing Bandit

Lauren's teacher mentioned that Lauren and her favorite friend at school (Shad) have been kissing. YES! Kissing at age 2 1/2. They said she would hold his face between her hands and soap opera kiss him. Ugh. So...Todd and I sat her down and talked about how great it is that she really likes her friend, but that perhaps a hug would do to show her affection. She now regularly tells us that she "just gave Shad hugs today".

They are currently doing a unit on Friendship in her class. Apparently they asked Shad who his best friend was the other day. He replied, "Jesse", to which our woman scorned (Lauren) whipped her head around so fast and glared at him. When they asked Lauren who her best friend was, she looked at Shad out of the corner of her eye, still seething when he started telling her, "But Lauren, you are my GIRLfriend" to help mollify her. Slick move, Shad, I must say.

Can this all really be starting already!?!? That said, he's a cute little boy. The girl has great taste.

Oh How My Babies Love One Another!

A special thanks to Mimi for the Big Sis/Lil Bro = Heart tees!

Davis- 2 Month Well Baby Visit

My Sweet Boy
On (ahem!) August 6th I took Davis in for his 8 week check up. Yes, I do realize that was just about a month ago...whoops! Time flies when you are swamped, you could say. :) At any rate, the doctor said he was doing beautifully and he was the juiciest thing she had seen all day.

Stats:
Height: 25 inches (greater than 95th %)
Weight: 16 lbs and 4 oz. (greater than 95th %)

Needless to say, he was completely off the charts again! It's been interesting that so far both appointments he's been running about 3lbs (almost exactly) heavier than Lauren at the same age, who was no small peanut herself. I guess we have a big boy on our hands! The doctor was very pleased with how well Davis is doing-- he held his head up for her, flirted and smiled, etc. He even flirted with the nurse...until she stuck those needles in him for his vaccinations! He was not happy...In fact, I think that was the hardest I have EVER seen our happy-go-lucky baby boy cry. His face was SOOO red! But, he quickly returned to his normal self, thankfully.

I had his 2 month portraits taken the next day. Here are some of my favorites:

You can't really tell in these photos, but we seem to have a redhead on our hands. His coloring and his hair very much favors Mommy's auburn tresses.
I love his big blue eyes...
Chunky Monkey. Who me???

A Very Special Gift

Davis received the most precious gift from his Mimi. She spent hours making him a "5 Little Monkeys" quilt. Todd and I keep admiring it, and all the work and love that went into it! It is a keepsake, to say the least, and I can't wait to someday see my own grandchildren playing on it.

Front

Back, which reads: "To my littlest monkey, William Davis Marschke, June 3, 2009, Made with love by MIMI"

I mean, really, how sweet is that?!?

I took some additional photos to show the detail, but I know they don't do the quilt justice.

And, finally a shot of it being used by MY two little monkeys. :)

Nightly Naked Time!

Mimi-- we cannot say thank you enough for such a special, personal, and memorable gift. Thank you for sharing your talents and love with our chunky monkey. I know Davis will always hold this blanket dear, in part because it is from you! xoxox. Todd and Kate

Paul and Kelly Visit

We were just spoiled with special visitors from up North this summer. My brother Paul and his wife Kelly joined us from Minneapolis in late July. We kept things pretty low-key for this visit, with a newborn and all. We lunched at our favorite burger joint "Pickle's Neighborhood Grille", played with the kids at home, and caught a ball game. They graciously babysat for us their first night here so that Todd and I could enjoy a grown up night of music at the Bob Dylan/Willie Nelson/John Mellencamp concert. And, we wrapped up the weekend with a cookout for Mimi's birthday with family and friends. The weather didn't cooperate much for their visit. We had rain storms galore, but we all had a great visit anyway. Thanks for the visit y'all! :)

Uncle Paul and Lauren get out the finger paints since the rain wouldn't cooperate with the sidewalk chalk plans.

Based on her smile, I don't think she minded having to stay indoors!
****
We were supposed to go to a Braves game against the LA Dodgers, but I neglected to get tickets in advance. Whoulda thunk they'd be hard to get?! Clearly, not me....so Todd got the brilliant idea to check out the Rome Braves instead! Naturally, they have the worst record in their single A league and they were playing the best team in the league. Can you imagine our surprise when they ending up winning by 7+ runs, or something like that?! We were just fixing to go home in the 7th inning when the sky opened up and it was pouring rain-- lightning, thunder, the works. Timing is everything! For the local blog stalkers, we actually liked the Rome Braves atmosphere, etc., better than the Gwinnett Braves and the prices are infinitely better for what you get! Just an hour or so away...

Four shots from our baseball adventure

1) the whole gang at the game 2) Lauren wonders, where did Romy and Roxie, the Rome Braves mascot go? 3) Davis in the car with his ball cap on, raring to go...er, resting up for the big game! 4)Aunt Kelly holding Baby Davis.

Why THERE they are! A special thank you to Uncle Paul for taking Lauren all around the stadium to see them. xoxox.

Davis smiling happily at his aunt and uncle after they accept the request to be two of his god parents! Looking forward to their next visit in October for his Baptism.

Blog Stalkers Beware!

I have been remiss the past few (oh let's just say 4+) weeks. I have been making the transition to Todd returning to work (not as much time on my hands during the day once he was gone!), and now returning to work myself last week (officially two weeks back now under my belt!!). At night we are trying to enjoy both kids, get a decent meal on the table for family dinners, baths, and then fall into bed ourselves. So, needless to say, I have not been much of a blogger. BUT, my fans have spoken (haha), so posts you shall get today! Enjoy.

xoxox.
